Cat Grooming 101: Brushes, Nail Care and Bath Tips
Share
Regular grooming keeps your cat healthy, reduces shedding, and strengthens your bond. Here's everything you need to know.
Brushing: The Foundation
Short-haired cats: Brush weekly with a soft bristle brush or grooming mitt.
Long-haired cats: Brush daily with a slicker brush and wide-tooth comb to prevent mats.
Always brush in the direction of hair growth, and make it a positive experience with treats.
Nail Care
Trim your cat's nails every 2-3 weeks. Use cat-specific nail clippers and only trim the sharp tip ā avoid the pink quick. If you're nervous, start with one paw at a time.
Bathing (When Needed)
Most cats don't need frequent baths, but occasional cleaning helps. Use lukewarm water and cat-safe shampoo. Keep it calm and quick, and dry thoroughly afterward.
Ear and Eye Care
Check ears weekly for dirt or wax. Clean gently with a damp cotton ball. Wipe away eye discharge with a soft, damp cloth.
Dental Health
Brush your cat's teeth 2-3 times per week with cat-safe toothpaste. Dental treats can supplement brushing.
